We sometimes want God for his benefits, but we do not always want to be obedient or give sacrifice to him. Though Jesus paid the price (living sacrifice) and there is no more need for the physical shedding of Blood for atonement we should be giving to God in different ways. We want a great paying job, big houses, nice cars & other luxurious things, but we don’t always want to put in the sacrificed time with the Lord. We need to follow the example of Jesus Christ and others in the Bible who God made publicly known through Scripture that he Loved. Don’t get me wrong God loves all of us. The Bible tells us that David was a man after Gods own heart & God was also WELL PLEASED with Jesus.
-But the king (David) said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing. –2 Samuel 24:24.
David refused to offer God something that cost him nothing. I think he knew that with all God had gave him in needed to make sure he sacrificed to God in his Obedience. (To get the entire story read the full chapter of 2 Samuel 24.) How many times has god blessed us and we were so full of negative emotions about giving him 10% back.
Acts 20:35 – In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
Proverbs 3:9-10 – Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Malachi 3:8-10 – Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me(God). But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 –The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
We have to really love God in our hearts over the things of this world that will pass away. Just like David choose to make a sacrifice financially to God we need to follow suite. It benefits us. It helps us keep Our Source (God) in the forefront. God is the giver of all things. He is the source and the career or job was the resource provided by him. This principal of sacrifice can and should be applied to other areas of our lives as well. We must sacrifice our praise, time, talent, body, mind, and spirit. Let us renew our mind in Jesus Christ so that the old man’s behaviors can be totally put away and the new person we care in Christ be the salt and Light in the world of darkness. Remember Jesus loves you ALWAYS!
